CHERRY keyboard web configurator: supported models & setup

Looking for a CHERRY wired-keyboard “online driver”? Keycurio is a browser configurator for a small, exact list of models. It does not install a driver or update firmware.

Quick answer: Open Keycurio on desktop Chrome or Edge over HTTPS, connect your wired keyboard, and select it in the browser’s WebHID chooser. Only the capability shown for that exact device is available; a similar CHERRY model is not automatically supported.

Is this an online driver?

No driver download is needed for Keycurio. The page uses the browser’s WebHID interface after you explicitly choose a device. The browser asks before granting access to that device; the site does not silently connect to every USB keyboard. See Chrome’s WebHID overview and MDN’s WebHID API reference.

For this configurator, use desktop Chrome or Edge and an HTTPS page. Firefox, Safari, and iPhone or iPad browsers can read the guide, but Keycurio cannot use its WebHID workflow there. WebHID support is browser-specific, so changing the keyboard’s USB cable or installing a generic driver will not make an unsupported browser compatible.

Check the exact model before making changes

Device identifierCurrent Keycurio scopeImportant limit
046A:00B4, white-backlight MX BOARD 8.0The one model with user-tested configuration support; use only controls shown for this device.Testing one model does not validate every function or hardware revision.
046A:00C4, 00C5, 00C9, 00CAExperimental, unverified keymap presets only: swap left Win/Alt or restore the factory key table for profile 0.Not arbitrary remapping. These writes have not been physically tested. Other CHERRY models are unsupported unless the page identifies them.

The experimental presets rebuild and replace the whole key table in profile 0. The configurator cannot read or back up the existing custom mapping or macro bindings first. Profile 0 may not be the profile you currently use. If preserving existing mappings matters, or you cannot identify that profile, do not continue. These presets do not restore firmware and cannot guarantee a recovery from an unexpected keyboard response.

CHERRY’s own CHERRY UTILITY page describes a separate vendor utility and says support depends on the specific product. That product list does not establish compatibility with Keycurio. Keycurio is independent and is not affiliated with CHERRY.

Connect and use it safely

  1. Open the Keycurio configurator in desktop Chrome or Edge over HTTPS. Connect the keyboard by USB and close other keyboard-configuration apps.
  2. Choose Connect keyboard. In the browser’s device chooser, select the matching CHERRY device and approve access. If the exact device is not listed, stop; do not select a different model just because its name looks similar.
  3. For 046A:00B4, some device information is read after connection. For the experimental identifiers, start the manual read shown on the page. A read does not apply a draft or prove that an experimental write is safe.
  4. Use only the controls the page enables for the identified device. Before any experimental preset, read the full overwrite warning. Cancel if you need to preserve profile 0’s custom mappings or macro bindings.
  5. After any change, test the relevant keys yourself. An acknowledgement means the device replied; it does not prove that the mapping works or survives unplugging or a power cycle.
